HI BI! MEET AMERICA’S FIRST OUT BISEXUAL GOVERNOR, OREGON’S KATE BROWN
The United States’ first ever out bisexual state governor will assume office this Wednesday. Kate Brown, who is currently Oregon’s elected Secretary of State will replace resigning governor John Kitzhaber.
Her appointment has been hailed as an historical landmark by the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund’s executive director, Denis Dison, who said: “Kate Brown will make history as the first openly bisexual American to become governor, and that makes us and the entire LGBT community extremely proud.”
Fifty-four-year-old Brown, who married her husband in 1997, says she figured out her sexual identity in her early 30s, came out publicly after she was outed in a newspaper article in 2009.
Upon hearing the news, her parents told her, “It would be much easier for us if you were a lesbian”.
Here at Hi Bi, we would like to thank Brown for being out and proud and getting on with the job. She’s certainly making it easier for us to be bisexual.
